Simple Commenter Update 1.0.4: Email Notifications
Lately, I’ve received a lot of great feedback and some intriguing feature requests from all of you, and I’m excited to share the progress we’re making in this 1.0.4 update.
Email Notifications: Stay Informed Your Way
One of the most popular requests has been for email notifications, and I'm excited to announce that this feature is now live and fully customizable to your needs. Enabling it is incredibly simple!
Easy to Enable
There’s a new toggle in the setting menu that lets you switch on email notifications with just a click.

Flexible Frequency Options
Don’t worry, this isn’t about spamming you with hourly emails. Instead, the frequency options let you choose how quickly you’d like to be notified when new comments are made. For example:
- Hourly: Ideal if you’re closely monitoring feedback.
- Daily or Weekly: Perfect for those busy days when multiple team members are actively contributing, ensuring you don’t get overwhelmed with new website annotations.
Customizable Recipients
Another neat addition is the ability to choose who receives these notifications. By default, emails go to the admin email, but you can specify a different recipient to make it more project-based. This means your team can stay informed exactly where they need to be.
Upcoming Features:
Replying to Comments
I’m also working on adding the ability to reply to comments—a feature that will enhance the feedback loop. However, I want to be upfront about some challenges I foresee.
The Challenge with Long Annotations and Replies
Simple Commenter is built for simplicity: your client leaves a comment, and you archive it once it's addressed. Each comment is attached to a specific element on your page (for example, saved as a “3rd div” within a container). However, as you start using replies and build longer comment chains—and as your website undergoes multiple iterations. When page elements change order, the connection between comments and their targets can break, leading to misaligned or disconnected threads.
A Work in Progress
I’m actively exploring solutions to ensure that even as web pages evolve, the comment thread remains intact and useful. This feature might take a little more time to implement, but I’m on it!
Other Planned Improvements
There are a couple more updates on the horizon to make Simple Commenter even better.
- Multi-User Support: Soon, you’ll be able to add more users to your account. Whether you’re looking at an enterprise license or simply need a collaborative workspace, this upgrade will allow different team members to access and manage comments seamlessly.
- Magic Link Login for Enhanced Security: Traditional password logins are becoming outdated, and security practices are evolving. That’s why I’m planning to roll out a magic link login option. This modern authentication method will provide a more secure and user-friendly login experience—no more relying solely on passwords.
In a Nutshell
I’m thrilled about these updates and the possibilities they bring for enhancing how you gather and manage feedback on your website. Simple Commenter was built to streamline client and customer communication.
Thank you for your continued feedback and support. Stay tuned for more updates, and feel free to reach out with any suggestions or questions!
Happy commenting,
Aleksander Kaaberma
